Driving & Parking

It is recommended that all motorists avoid roads in the Docklands area between 1am and 3pm on Sunday April 3, 2022

Participants in the event are encouraged wherever possible to catch public transport to the event. Remember to wear a mask on all public transport services.

If you do decide drive to the event, carefully check the road closures and plan your route carefully to ensure you can access your preferred car park.

Please study the Road closure table and map carefully to see which roads will be closed and how best to access your chosen parking destination. 

Note that normal on-street parking restrictions apply throughout the event.

Tip: Please do not park anywhere on the course.

The closest carpark is the Marvel Stadium Car Park, which can be accessed from Wurrundjeri Way.

Marvel Stadium’s Car Park is open 24 hours a day – seven days a week with more than 2,500 undercover car parks available.

From the North

Vehicles will be able to access the CBD unimpeded from the North down William Street, Queen Street, Elizabeth Street, Russell Street and Exhibition Street.

From the South

Vehicles will be able to access the CBD from the South via King’s Way or Punt Road.

From the East

Vehicles will be able to access the CBD from the East via Wellington Parade or Victoria Parade. 


Major Traffic Diversions

Monash Freeway to Tullamarine Freeway

Vehicles can exit Monash Freeway at Punt Road and continue northbound along Hoddle Street, turn left into Alexandra Parade, continuing into Princes Street and College Crescent/Cemetery Road. Traffic will then continue onto McArthur Street and Elliott Avenue, turning right into Flemington Road to access CityLink and the Tullamarine Freeway.

Monash Freeway to West Gate Freeway

Vehicles will be able to access the West Gate Freeway from the Monash Freeway via Toorak Road and Kings Way. Vehicles will be able to access the West Gate Freeway at Kings Way, and continue through to the West Gate Bridge, noting there will be no access to the Bolte Bridge or Todd Road.

Over dimensional vehicles are advised to exit Monash Freeway at Warragul Road, and use Princes Highway to access the West Gate Freeway at Kings Way.

Kings Way to Tullamarine Freeway

Vehicles destined for the Tullamarine Freeway from Kings Way can travel through to King Street and Dudley Street and access CityLink northbound only at via Footscray Road. 


Vehicles travelling inbound on the West Gate Freeway destined for Montague Street or Kings Way, will be directed to use Todd Rd, the Bolte Bridge (northbound only) or Power Street.


CityLink inbound will be closed at Footscray Road. The Footscray Road exit will provide vehicles access to West Gate Freeway via Wurrundjeri Way and Monague Street.

The Footscray Road exit will provide vehicles access to Monash Freeway via Wurundjeri Way and Monague Street and Burnley Tunnel.


Clarendon Street will be closed between Normanby Road and Flinders Street. Access to and from the CBD will be via Normanby Road, Montague Street and Flinders Street.


Queensbridge Street will be closed between Power Street and Flinders Street. Access to and from the CBD will be available via:

  • Kings Way
  • Whiteman Street, Normanby Rd, Montague Street, Wurundjeri Way and Dudley Street
  • City Road, Alexandra Avenue, Swan Street and Batman Avenue
  • City Road, Olympic Boulevard and Brunton Avenue.


Oversized and placard vehicles who exit the West Gate Freeway at Power Street will be able to access the Monash Freeway via Batman Avenue under speed restrictions



Access across HArbour Esplanade into and out of Victoria Harbour will be faciliated via Bourke Street only for the duration of the event. Local closures will direct vehicles to Bourke Street, and Traffic controllers will be onsite to manage traffic flow.


Access across Docklands Drive, into and out of New Quay will be facilitated via Waterfront Way and Doepel Way only, at limited times before and during the event period.Vehicles will queue in Doepel Way and be moved across Docklands Drive under traffic control at appropriate times. Traffic controllers and signage will direct vehicles in this precinct



Batmans Hill Drive will be closed in both directions between Wurundjeri and Bourke Street. Some local access will be possible via intersecting roads  (McCrae Street, Waterview Walk and Fishplate Lane) however some properties will be inaccessible by vehicle during the event times. 


Pearl River Road will be closed in both directions between Observation Drive and Docklands Drive. There will be no vehicle access to properties fronting Pearl River Road, including O’Brien Icehouse
