The Race Entrants Training Vilage Activities News & Photos Contacts & Links

Environmentally Friendly

This year’s event will incorporate several environmentally conscious innovations. All drinking cups along the route will be recyclable and there will be co-mingling rubbish bins at the Run For The Kids village in the Royal Botanic Gardens. CityLink has also purchased Greenpath carbon offsets equal to one year’s use of the Mazda car that will be won by one lucky race entrant.

GreenPath

In 2007 Citylink's owner, Transurban formed a partnership with Origin to create Greenpath – an online program that allows Australian motorists to calculate their vehicle’s greenhouse gas emissions and purchase carbon offsets for them through the Greenpath website. The scheme is straightforward and the money goes towards projects managed under Origin’s Carbon Reduction Scheme (CRS)™.

Through the News Limited 1degree program, the Herald Sun is committed to becoming a carbon neutral organisation. As such, we endeavour to minimise the carbon footprint of all events that we are associated with, including The Herald Sun/Citylink Run for the Kids. Specific activities included

  • Wastewise silver medal recycling rating
  • Purchasing carbon credits to offset all vehicle emissions
  • Minimising plastic bag usage
