Public Transport

With major road closures in place for this and other events, entrants should avoid driving into the city, top up their Myki and jump on public transport.

Public transport now runs all night and morning on the weekend, with all night trains, trams and buses

Metro Trains

One of the best ways to get to the Herald Sun / CityLink Run for the Kids is on Metro by train to Flinders Street Station. Flinders Street Station is the closest station to the start/finish in King’s Domain and is about a 5-10 minute walk along St Kilda Road.

The following Metro Train Services for Run for the Kids arrive at Flinders Street in time to make it to the start line.

Many stations along the metropolitan train lines have parking facilities for you to park your car and complete your journey to the start line by train.

Arriving at Flinders St Station

Due to the road closures in place for Run for the Kids, and for your safety and the safety of others, please exercise caution when exiting Flinders St Station.

Note: During the event only (between 7:00am and 11:30am) there will be altered access and exit arrangements in place for pedestrians at Southern Cross Station and this may affect your family and friends who are coming to watch you run! These arrangements do not affect any scheduled train services.

Flinders St management have requested that competitors DO NOT change into running gear in the station toilets.

 Yarra Trams

Now that Night Network is in place on weekends, there are tram services available every 30 minute to get entrants to Flinders Street Station in time to walk to the start line.

Impacts to services are as follows:

Line 8 Services will operate in two parts from first to 1300; and, Moreland to Southbank Boulevard (last stop, Stop 14 – Arts Precinct); and, Toorak to Arts Precinct (last stop, Stop 14 – Arts Precinct).

Line 11 Services will operate between Stop 47 – West Preston (Gilbert Rd & Regent St) and Stop 1 – Spencer Street and Collins Street from first tram to 1230pm

Line 12 – trams will operate in sections, between first tram and 12.30pm. Between stop 24 Victoria Gardens & Stop 1 Southern Cross Station,
Collins St. (Operated by Kew Depot using low floor trams only)
Between Stop 143 Fitzroy St & Park St (St Kilda) & Stop 124 Batman Park.
(Operated by Southbank Depot using A-Class vehicles).

Line 35 – City Circle Tram 

City Circle services will not run out of Southbank Depot until after 1230hrs.

Line 48 Services will operate between Stop 51 – North Balwyn (Balwyn Rd & Doncaster Rd) and Stop 1 – Spencer Street and Collins Street from first to 12:30pm.

Line 55 Services will operate between West Coburg and Market St – The last stop for passengers travelling towards Domain Interchange will be Stop 4 Collins St. Trams towards West Coburg will pick up from Stop 2 Flinders Lane

Line 58 Services will operate in two sections:- Between Stop 45 Bell St & Melville Rd (West Coburg) & Stop 2 Market St & Flinders Ln.
– Between Stop 139 Glenferrie Rd & Toorak Rd (Toorak) & Stop 116 City Rd
& Kings Way (Operated by Malvern Depot)
The last stop for passengers towards Toorak is Stop 4 Collins/William St
from the north.

Line 70 Services will operate between Stop 61 Elgar Rd & Riversdale Rd (Wattle Park) & Stop 2 King St/Flinders St (Melbourne Aquarium). from first to 1230.

Line 75 Vermont South – Services will operate between Stop 75 Vermont South Shopping Centre (Vermont South) & Stop 2 King St/Flinders St (Melbourne Aquarium) from 0630 to 1230; 

Line 86 Bundoora / Docklands between 6.30am and 12.30pm, Sunday March 18  Services will operate between Stop 71- McKimmies Rd & Plenty Rd (Bundoora) and Stop D1 – Etihad Stadium

Line 95 Line 95 shuttle services will not run out of Southbank Depot until after 12.30pm

Line 96 East Brunswick / St Kilda between 6.30am and 12.30pm, Sunday March Services will operate in two parts;  Stop 140 – Barkly St & Acland St (St Kilda Beach) to Stop 124 – Batman Park;and, Stop 27 – Blyth St & Nicholson St (East Brunswick) to Stop D1 – Etihad Stadium.

Line 109 Services will operate in two sections:Between Stop 58 Box Hill Central (Box Hill) & Stop 1 Southern CrossStation, Collins St.
– Between Stop 129 Beacon Cove (Port Melbourne) & Stop 124 Batman
Park.

Bike Parking

Why not ride your bike in to the start at Kings Domain, where you will be able to leave it securely in a designated bike parking area on Tom’s Block close to the long course finish line – check your race information booklet for location details on the site plan.

 

Driving & Parking

It is recommended that all motorists avoid roads in the Southbank area including West Gate Fwy (westbound) and Olympic Park Precinct between 5:00am and 1:30pm. Participants in the event are encouraged wherever possible to catch public transport to the event.

If you do have to drive to the event, aim to arrive at your chosen car park by 6:00am to avoid most of the road closures and to give yourself plenty of time to get from your car parking location to the start.
